West of Scotland Regional Equality Council (WSREC) was set up as Glasgow Community Relations Council in 1971. It is one of the largest and most established equality councils in Scotland. It is a voluntary sector organisation and registered as a charity and company limited by guarantee. It was set up to eradicate all forms of discrimination under the Race Relations Act 1976. Traditionally WSREC services have focused on casework, advocacy and advice. However, with the demise of the Commission of Racial Equality (CRE) and the advent of the Equality Act 2010 we changed our name and work in all of the protected characteristics (Age, Disability, Gender Reassignment, Marriage & Civil Partnership, Pregnancy & Maternity, Race, Religion or Belief, Sex and Sexual Orientation).
