The GreATE 24 Hour Run is a fundraising event run in which volunteers will be in a continuous relay for 24 hours. There will always be at least one volunteer running on the 2.5 mile course by the river Severn in Worcester. This means many of the volunteers are taking on the challenge of running into the night and early morning. All of this is to help raise funds that will support the organisation's mission. ATE are a charity who run residential summer camps for children aged 8-16 in the UK. We have over 50 years’ experience (formerly as ‘Colony Holidays’) in running summer camps. I have only been part of this organisation for just over a year but have already witnessed the huge positive impact ATE has had on many children. So much so that I know several children who enjoyed their first camp so much that they have already signed up again for the coming summer. Witnessing improvements in the children’s self esteem, confidence and cooperation skills within just a seven day period really emphasised the dedication and the hard work of ATE. ATE aims to bring children together for adventure and play in unique residential settings. It provides safe, worthwhile residential experiences for all children regardless of background. This diversity extends beyond the UK and we often have international children on our superweeks; the group of children I had on my first superweek was in fact 40% international. From studying at an international school I’ve seen benefits of children being exposed to international diversity; such as increased cultural respect and understanding. Ive seen these benefits reciprocated on super weeks and I think this aspect of diversity is yet another positive impact the work of ATE has on a child’s well being. ATE widely promotes the value of play and related activities and to give as many children as possible access to our unique repertoire. We aim to stretch and challenge children’s imaginations and expectations of themselves and to increase their confidence and self-belief. A Superweek provides new activities and experiences for children; new hobbies, new games, and new friends and allows children to discover new talents and interests.
