At the Whitehawk Foodbank we have met an unprecedented need for emergency food provision in East Brighton during the Coronavirus Crisis with an increase of 4x the amount of referrals we were recieving pre-COVID. The nature of the crisis means that we have had to start up and scale up a delivery service to those who are vulnerable to the virus and unable to collect. A van for our foodbank will enable us to continue the amazing work of our delivery drivers in delivering over 25 food parcels a week to local people in East Brighton. In addition, we will be able to work more collaboratively with other foodbanks sharing and distributing food where needed. Crucially, it will enable a far more sustainable and fair way of working for our amazing team of volunteers who have used their own cars, petrol and time to serve the foodbank over the past 6 months.
