To launch their Net Effect campaign against ghost fishing gear the World Cetacean Alliance (WCA) are organising a series of fishing gear cleanups worldwide over the weekend of 6-8 June. I am organising one at my local beach in Great Yarmouth as I am always horrified by the amount of discarded fishing nets and line wash up or are left on the beach. Discarded fishing gear can pose a real threat to wildlife if they become entangled or ingest it. All donations will go towards the WCA Net Effect campaign to help tackle ghost gear worldwide.
Please come along from 10am - 1pm on Sunday 7th June, meeting on North Denes beach opposite Jellicoe Road! Rubbish bags will be provided, please bring gloves if you want to and don't forget water as it is meant to be warm!
