UCL Student Support & Wellbeing - in collaboration with UCLU and Student Action for Refugees - will be hosting a range of events on campus in support of refugee education initiatives in the UK and abroad, from Monday 20th to Friday 24th February 2017. One sadly overlooked aspect of the global refugee crisis is education. Refugee children are often unable to access this fundamental human right, with only 50% attending primary school and only 1% going on to reach higher education. It is estimated that refugees will spend an average of 17 years in displacement, which for children may mean the entirety of their schooling years. One of the organisations we will be supporting is Edlumino Education Aid, a registered charity providing emergency education and support to children currently in refugee camps. Edlumino Education Aid is a collaboration of qualified teachers and educationalists from the UK and mainland Europe, who are united in realising their belief that education is for all children, irrespective of their current circumstances.
