Ian Nettleton, Rob Pettener, Rich Seddon, Dave Lindfield and Jim Poole, a group of 5 Saga-dodging middle-aged geo/engineers, will be attempting to undertake the Trans-Cambrian Way Cycle Challenge at the end of September. Their target is to raise £1,600, which will fund new wells, or refurbish a number of existing wells, that will provide clean water to several remote African villages. For example text the message WELLS45£25 to 70070 and you will donate £25, This is a gruelling 3-day event, covering 175km of brutal Welsh mountainous terrain, including 12,000 feet of elevation gain! The route roughly follows much of Owen Glynder’s Way through the remote heart of mid-Wales. The team departs Knighton (28th Sept) heading initially towards Knucklas and the first climb heading up to Beacon Hill soaring above the red-kites before descending to Llanbadarn Fynydd and the first of many a river crossings. Then onto Bwlch Sarnau, over the top of Abbeycwmhir Forest, dropping into Rhayader for a night in a bunkhouse. Day two (the brute!) has much harder climbs and beautiful, remote scenery. The clan initial head into the Elan Valley, climbing up a rocky trail to the Claerwen Dam, one of Birmingham’s major water supplies. Depending on water levels the team may have to haul the bikes across the flooded channels. The route then climbs and passes around the lakes of the Teifi Pools before turning back towards the Elan Valley and Tarenig Forest, and on towards Llangurig hopefully before nightfall. Day three, we set out from Llangurig towards Hafren Forest climbing towards Staylittle and back onto Owen Glynder’s Way. Descending from Foel Fadian on rapid downhills into the valleys leading to the Machynlleth trail before dropping further down forests onto the coast road, and then onto the Dyfi Estuary and the remote Dovey Junction train station Thank you for visiting our Givey page.
