Historia

The church of St Mary the Virgin, a Grade I listed building, is one of the grandest and finest churches in Essex and plays a key role in the life of Saffron Walden. Sharing God’s love (in the community) is St Mary’s mission. We have begun a major project of internal works to make the church building a more welcoming space for its many visitors and regular users. Our plans include an upgrade of the heating throughout the church, provision of a toilet, suitable for disabled persons and baby changing, creation of better facilities for serving tea and coffee and relocation of the tomb of Thomas Audley to make it more accessible to the many visitors who come to see it. This will cost in the region of £500,000 and success depends upon the generous support of our parishioners and other well-wishers. Whatever you can give, however large or small, will be greatly appreciated, and further increase in value if you are able to gift aid it.
