About
This is the 6th time that we have set up at the wonderful Hare & Hounds pub on the winter Spine Race and we have also set up nearby 5 times on summer spine. This initially started as a small group of us from Craven Energy Triathlon Club and we have nearly all done the Spine Race. As the years have gone by, the number of volunteers has grown and we believe that between the helpers, we should have around 50 Spine races between us. Core to what we all do on the Spine and training in the hills is mountain rescue. Hopefully, we will never need them but the knowledge that they are there allows us to push our racing and training. Indeed, the particular rescue team chosen this year came out whilst a group of us were Spine training in 2021 and the most innocuous fall ended up in hospital at 2am under anaesthetic having a badly dislocated shoulder sorted. There are many mountain rescue teams along the route and over the years we have raised over £7500 for 5 of them plus Mountain Rescue Search Dogs England. This year we are raising money for Calder Valley Search & Rescue Team who cover just over 20 miles of the route that you will have already completed when you arrive at the Hare & Hounds. For those of you who visit us, we will impose a max of 30 minutes in our tents. You will be met with warmth, kindness and tea/coffee/soft drinks along with bacon sandwiches (plus vegetarian/vegan/gluten free/lactose options). We work closely with Spine HQ and Spine Safety Team. Many of us have raced or volunteered for many years and we will do our best to help you with any emergency issues that race rules would allow. If you ever get the chance to support this wonderful pub then please do so. They are so helpful in providing use of their pub for the race so we would love people to use them - it's genuinely one of the best eating and real ale pubs we know. When you make your donation through Givey, the Charity receives 100% of the donation.
