Maria and I will be running the Blackpool 10k Run the Lights on August 17th. We are running in aid of the charity FrontLine Children and specifically a school in As Eyla in Djibouti. We are going on a self funded volunteer expedition in November this year to support the school and have committed to raise an additional £2000 between us for this school. During a gym session we started to talk about doing more for others and how volunteering really appealed. Maria learned of a volunteering trip to Djibouti and when we read about the school and the children we knew this one was for us. The history of this school is all about kindness and support. In 2019 Jordan Wylie paddled around Great Britain to raise funds to build a school in one of the most remote, poverty stricken areas of the world - the Afar Desert in Djibouti - one of the hottest countries on earth. In 2021 the school in As Eyla was built, and for the first time, children aged 4 to 6 in Djibouti could go to school. The children live in conditions and levels of poverty that many of us can thankfully not even imagine, with hight infant mortality rates and low life expectancy. Education is the only way out of poverty and in Djibouti not all children have access to education. By raising this money, alongside other volunteers we aim to give these children the opportunity to an education and hope for a brighter future.
