On February 24th, I will be running the Sahara Marathon, a trek that runs through the territory of Western Sahara, in southern Algeria. The weather will be hot, sunny and around 30C. So, fun. The Kenyan Orphan Project is a charity I've encountered before, and it's one that's outside of the big-NGO machine. It makes a real difference in a desperately poor corner of the planet, and it's well worth your pennies.
The organisers of the Sahara Marathon say you can drop down to a half-marathon or a 10k on the day, if you get cold (hot) feet. Your money will stop me doing this. And if there's anything that should empty your pockets, it's the knowledge that whatever you donate will give me half a day of pure, blistered misery. Gisyermunee!
