Story

Reach Out & Touch Romania was started in 1991 following a trip by the charitys founder, Gareth Jones, to Vrfurile, a village in north-west Romania. After seeing the poverty in the area, Gareth returned to Ebbw Vale in south Wales and set up the charity to plan a return visit.

Two decades later, the charity has made around 35 trips to Romania. We now support a retirement home, an orphanage, a doctors surgery, a nursery, a secondary school and two churches amongst other projects.

During that time we estimate our vans have driven around 315,000 miles (equivalent to driving to the moon and back plus twice around the world!), almost 50 volunteers have made the journey, and weve delivered around 232 tonnes of aid, equivalent to the weight of two houses!
