Many individuals, families, businesses, charities and community projects were affected by the devastation caused by the August 14 floods in Freetown, Sierra Leone. Some had to leave their homes and belongings, others lost valuable equipment and goods. So far over 320 people have died.
Since August 14 2017, A-fID has been able to distribute £1000 in grants to individuals, charities and community projects in IMAT and surrounding areas that were directly affected. However, due to limited resources, we are unfortunately not able to support many other individuals and businesses who are affected by the floods.
In the coming days, we will be moving into the second phase of our relief efforts which is implementing projects that are helping with the longer-term clean-up activities and to support flood resilience initiatives, community sensitisation, and the relocation of displaced people. We believe this is a critical phase due to the wider benefit the projects will bring to the community.
We are therefore looking to raise £50,000 to help us implement our disaster relief projects. The deadline for raising this amount is 30 November 2017. We thank you for your support and donations.
