About
*UPDATE*: I did it! I ran the 11k in about 55 min (including lots of stops to check directions!). It was a lovely run through the Olympic Park, Hackney Marshes, and Walthamstow Reservoirs. Thanks so much to everyone who has donated so far! This Sunday (15th of November) I will be running the distance between my house and London Academy of Excellence Tottenham, joining other staff and students from my school in a joint effort to fundraise for LAET's hardship fund. I have only set up a modest target because the distance isn't that great (about 7 miles), but on the other hand it's going to be pouring down rain - perhaps this will make you consider my efforts worthy of a higher donation! Any contribution big or small will be greatly appreciated. About LAET: My school ( Highgate) became in 2017 the Primary Sponsor of London Academy of Excellence, Tottenham. LAET is a new sixth form free school that follows the successful model of the LAE in Stratford (also one of Highgate partner schools) to provide an academically rigorous sixth form education to children in the Tottenham area. It was created in response to an identified need for improved post-16 education in the borough (52% of pupils leave for post-16 education) and delivers A levels prized by universities and employers, whilst retaining close community links, as pupils undertake outreach activities. If you want to learn more about LAET, you can do so by following the link below: https://www.highgateschool.org.uk/our-community/laet/ ABOUT THE HARDSHIP FUND: There are approximately 200 families at LAE Tottenham - around 40% of the school population - who need weekly, ongoing support for essentials. There are families who have to choose between feeding their children, or topping up the electricity meter. Students who cannot afford clothes to wear to school. Children at LAE Tottenham considering dropping out of their A Levels to support their families. This has been a familiar rhetoric over the past few weeks, but next few years will not be easy for these families. LAE Tottenham wants to establish a hardship fund, to continue supporting these families, now and in the future. Although some students receive additional support from the government, many narrowly miss out. £15 a week would make a life changing difference to these families. A generous, anonymous donor has pledged to double the first 100 regular donations towards the establishment of this hardship fund up to a total value of £25,000, to support the establishment of this ongoing hardship fund. As we do not know when this need will end, we hope donors will consider making a regular monthly or annual donation. With the match, a donation of £300 - which breaks down to £25 a month - plus Gift Aid, would give a family £15 extra a week, all year. https://youtu.be/MQ_0kW3MEYQ Thank you for visiting our Givey page.
