Historia

Our Lady of Lourdes School desperately wishes to improve its playground facilities and are embarking on plans to renovate their run-down tarmac playgrounds and an un-used ‘wild-green area’ and transform them into a stimulating and physically engaging space for the children to play, and provide much needed facilities to enable their participation in sports and physical activities.

What we have... Currently the play facilities consist of a small Infant playground and a larger Junior playground, both have old-detiorated tarmac surfaces with no play structures or access to grass. There is also a large un-used ‘wild green area’ of land, adjacent to the Junior playground, currently un-safe to use (which we hope to develop into an area that all the children can access and benefit from).

What we hope to achieve... Our vision is to re-surface the playgrounds and provide a safe, physically and emotionally stimulating outdoor play-environment that will enable all the children to engage in a variety of sports and activities and create a more positive play-time experience, which will ultimately enhance their overall well-being, education and school-life experience.

Some of the improvements we hope to achieve include: a designated games area with playground markings for football and other ball games, age-appropriate play &/or climbing structures in both play areas, access to a grassed area and creation of a ‘school garden’.

Can you help?... Due to the large amount of funds needed to achieve our vision, the School is unable to fund such a project without substantial financial assistance. Therefore the PTA at Our Lady of Lourdes School have launched a ‘Playground Development Appeal’ and are hoping to raise the necessary funds through both individual donations and personal fundraising, organising school-fundraising events as well as applying for external grants and funding.

We are appealing for anyone who would like to help us achieve our vision.

Alternatively, if you have any relevant skills or experience, or if you are a local business and would like to contribute in any way to our on-going project, please email us at friends@ololpta.org.uk or contact the school direct on 01273 306980.
