So Darron and I are cycling the London to Brighton Bike ride again this year, Sunday 16th June, all 55 miles of it! This year we are fundraising for a local charity which is very close to our hearts. A charity that I personally have had the pleasure to volunteer for, on occasion, and one that spreads so much joy and love throughout our local community! Let me tell you more.. Food and Friendship is a small charity based in Brighton and Hove with an amazing team of wonderful volunteers. They provide low cost shared meals for isolated older people as well as adults with learning disabilities and offer opportunities to volunteer. Food and Friendship uses surplus food donated by organisations such as Fareshare and UK Harvest. They hire buses from Brighton and Hove community transport and the Stroke Club to collect older guests with restricted mobility and long term health conditions, who cannot access public transport. They meet on a Tuesday and Thursday lunchtime at Hove Methodist Church hall. Food and Friendship works with over 100 guests and volunteers on a weekly basis and provide thousands of meals every year. In 2024 they celebrate 10 wonderful years of being at Hove Methodist Church and they are very much looking forward to the next 10 years of tackling loneliness through food. It honestly is such a fabulous atmosphere at Hove Lunch club. I've never seen so many smiles and heard so much laughter! A hub of our local community - a safe space where people can come and meet new friends, enjoy a fabulously cooked three course meal, enjoy some entertainment and truly feel they are loved and part of our local community. Please support this incredible cause anyway you can. The smallest donation is so valuable to them as so much of what they do depends on their own self fundraising.
