LEGS is a charity which provides supported exercise groups for people who have had a stroke and other neurological conditions. For many, living with a neurological condition, such as a stroke, can be extremely challenging, both physically and mentally, especially when NHS support comes to an end. Our founder, a neurological physiotherapist, recognised the need for a high quality, long term, affordable solution to rehabilitation so in 2015, she started LEGS, running weekly physiotherapist led exercise and support groups. Meaningful improvement for people with neurological conditions can happen over many years and LEGS recognises the need for a programme which sustains increased physical activity over months, rather than weeks, and takes a holistic approach by providing participants with support and advice. Our aims include improving health and mental well-being, increasing physical activity and reducing social isolation. The LEGS programme enables participants to improve their physical function, independence and confidence, while reducing their reliance on carers and family, enabling them to fulfil their social and family roles and be able to enjoy activities that are individually meaningful.
