So it seems I have now committed to running my first half marathon, firstly because a full one is far too ridiculous, but mainly to support a charity very important to me Maggies Centre. They were also of great importance to my dad whom we tragically lost to cancer two years ago. So in memory of this amazing man, for all those with loved ones affected by cancer, and in support of Maggie's, I am taking on the Royal Parks Half Marathon in October, as a small token of gratitude for the great work they do. Ill be running with my best pal Emily. My friend since the age of seven, I cant seem to shake her off we now even work 100yards apart! She is running for Maggies too, in memory of her friends and family who have received their invaluable support.
Dads main involvement with Maggies was at their social events at Charing Cross Hospital, with the very important role of ensuring glasses were kept at least half full. This was very appropriate for him as despite the challenges and ill health he faced, his glass was always half full one of his greatest attributes and how I will forever remember him.
And this will therefore be my attitude approaching this challenge! Through the early starts, aching knees and when sitting with a glass of wine and a DVD is far more appealing than having to train; and even if I have to crawl across the finish line, I will endeavour for my glass to always remain half full, and of course to hopefully complete the run!
