I am running the Berlin Marathon with my sons Ned (22) and Will (20) realising a longstanding dream - please support JDRF by sponsoring me, so that they can realise their dream of a cure for type 1 diabetes.
I have run several marathons, but since my first in 1993, when Ned was just one, have always wanted to run one with my two boys. So at the end of September we are heading off to Berlin, which appeals to my ageing joints as the flattest big city marathon in the world!
I have been a consultant physician with a specialist interest in Diabetes for almost 20 years. I am amazed by how people with type 1 diabetes cope with living with this condition, dependent on insulin in many cases for almost a lifetime, juggling the demands of the condition with living a normal life. I have seen the huge difference that technologies such as insulin pumps can make to managing type 1 diabetes and harnessing such technologies to create an artificial pancreas is just one of the research programmes JDRF is funding in trying to provide a cure for the condition.
I will be fulfilling my dream running the Berlin marathon with Ned and Will. Please sponsor me generously so that JDRF can fund that research and realise their dream of finding a cure for type 1 diabetes.
