Shortly before Christmas 2014, we lost my nan who had been suffering with alzheimers and dementia. She would have thought I was totally crazy for doing this, but the point of a fundraiser is that it's meant to be tough, right?! So my nan would have been right. Yes I think I may be crazy or stupid for signing up for a half marathon; self proclaimed as unfit and I get tired walking up the stairs. But if nothing else it will be a huge challenge and will hopefully raise some money at the same time.
Alzheimer's is the most common form of dementia affecting over 500,000 people in the UK. And the way I see it, not enough people know enough about it. It is an extremely hard illness to deal with for both the people going through it themselves and the people around them. Alzheimers Society raises money toward research into why the brain breaks down the way it does and funding towards finding a cure. They also pair up with 'dimensions friends' who raise awareness on dementia in communities.
