Ultramarathon?, No, it's not the name of a crap superhero who just loves eating snickers in the past*. It is a ridiculous concept for people who believe a marathon is just not long enough.
Having said that on Sunday October 12th, I will be running my first ultramarathon - The Royal Parks Ultra in London
Why I hear you ask? Is it because I love chaffing thighs, bleeding nipples, blisters on my feet and 'hitting the wall'. Well, maybe, but more importantly it is all for a good cause. In a world that still can't find time for a respite from conflict and suffering, I'm running for Unicef, a great charity that helps children who are unfortunate enough to be caught in the middle - be it those suffering from famine in South Sudan, to children ravaged by ebola in West Africa, to children trapped in the warzones in Iraq & Gaza and even children that aren't so fortunate here in the UK.
So, I ask you to please take just a moment from your busy lives and sponsor me. It doesn't matter if it's 1 or 100, every bit helps and will help spur me on as my body slowly falls apart with each stride. Oh yeah, and I promise to be your friend forever...(whether you like it or not)
Faris xx
*N.B. that joke only works if you lived in the UK in the 80s/90s
