I'm taking part in Ironman Barcelona this year which is a long distance triathlon, in total I need to cover 140.6 miles under my own steam. First swim 2.4 miles, the cycle 112 miles followed by a nice little 26.2 mile marathon to finish. I have to get all this done in under 16 hours. I have tried to complete the Outlaw Triathlon back in 2013 which is the same distance but I missed a time cut off by 10mins at mile 75 on the bike.
So having motivated myself once more, joined a local triathlon club and invested in a coach plus a very good alarm clock I'm going for attempt number 2 on October 4th 2015, starting on Calella beach as one of 1000+ entrants, with several other club members.
Full details of the event are here
People have asked me who I'm racing for and I've thought a lot about it and decided to go with my heart. Anyone who knows me knows my love of horses and according my Dad it's still a phase some 30+ years after that first riding lesson :) In fact I took up triathlon when my two horses had to be retired as a way of keeping myself fit. I see it as eventing without the horse ;)
I'm setting myself another ambitious goal, I'm hoping to raise GBP5.00 per mile in aid of horses in Egypt who are working even harder than I will be.
PFK is a small UK registered charity in Cairo doing the best it can to improve life for working horses and help their owners to.
The photo I've used is of a little horse called Weeble, yes it really is him in both photos.

As the well-known supermarket slogan goes, every little bit helps and the people over at PFK really do make every donation count.
