This Charity isn't enabled and so it cannot be donated to
Harlington Baptist Church has its origins in the early part of the 18th century, when a group of "dissenters" established a non-conformist fellowship in the village. In the 1750s a local farmer, John Atlee, donated a plot of land for the erection of a chapel on the eastern side of the High Street. The original chapel, albeit much modified, is still in use as the church hall.
In 1798 the fellowship agreed to become constituted as a Baptist Church. The first minister of the newly constituted Baptist Church, the Rev Torlin, remained at the Church for 26 years until his early death at the age of 49.
In 1879 the present church building was erected on the western side of the High Street. However, only 19 years later, on the occasion of the 100th Anniversary of Harlington Baptist Church, an appeal was made for funds for repairs to the church. Half a century later, in 1956, an extensive renovation was undertaken. A further appeal was made in 1965 and, as a first stage in what was meant to be a wholesale renovation project, changes were made to the entrance to the church, this being formally opened on Whit Sunday 1966.
Today Harlington Baptist Church again stands in need of substantial funds for repairs to the fabric of the building, especially the roof, guttering, drainage and windows. Wind and rain and general deterioration, not to mention the constant vibration caused by the heavy traffic rumbling non-stop past the church and air-turbulence from nearby Heathrow Airport, have all taken their toll on the structure of this historic building. As it is a Grade 2 listed building, all work needs to be done to a high standard by craftsmen with experience in historic building conservation.
Harlington Baptist Church welcomes all donations, small or large, to help meet the challenge of carrying out these urgently needed repairs, and ensure that it remains open for the present and future generations to hear the preaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. If you have a connection with Harlington Baptist Church, or with the local area, and you would like to help us in our appeal, we would love to hear from you.
For and on behalf of,
Pastor Neemias Antonio & The members of Harlington Baptist Church.
