At the end of April, I will be attempting the IoW Ultra Challenge - a gritty 106km walk around the circumference of the Isle of Wight, which I aim to complete in sub-30 hours. Sadly, last year as a group of 12 we all fell short of the distance by ~30km - beaten by the unrelenting poor weather, sleep deprivation, and failing joints. I've healed both mentally and physically and feel in good shape to have another crack at completing the challenge in honour of my good friend Bobby Hetherington, who sadly lost his life in Afghanistan in 2013. I was fortunate enough to meet Bobby whilst working at summer camp in America – he was a complete natural working with children and wanted to continue doing so in a more permanent role in the future. In this vein, to date we have raised approximately £10k in his honour for two children's charities - The Railway Children and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. This year, I want to continue this tradition by raising for Keech Hospice Care; a charity that provide care for children with life-limiting and terminal illnesses. I have chosen to use Givey as a means to donate as, unlike certain other donation pages, they charge the charity nothing for the service and pass on a 100% of the money received! This page is for donations prior to completion of the challenge; however, I want to also raise money via pledges, so that I know each km will yield an increase in donations. i.e. 10p per km, with a 20% increase in total donation when I complete the full distance!
