Last year I did my first race ever (5k). This year I wanted a challenge so I signed up for a half marathon at the Edinburgh Marathon Festival on the 31st of May. Soon I realised I slightly overestimated my skills and underestimated the task :) After 2 months of blisters, knee, leg and back pain I was thinking to give up on this race. Somehow, I managed to get through the pain and this week I ran 18k. Although, I still have 3k more I feel a bit more confident. But I also know I will have to work hard to get to 21k! This year I would like to fundraise for Hope and Homes for Children (HHC). The charity and their partners work with children, their families and communities across Central & Eastern Europe and Africa, to ensure that children grow up in an environment where they have the opportunity to fulfil their potential. They move children out of institutions into family-based care, help keep together families at risk of breakdown due to the pressures of poverty, disease or conflict, and work to prevent child abandonment. The money that you donate will go to HHC’s partners in Moldova: Child, Community, Family (CCF). Moldova is the poorest country in Europe and many children live in institutions although they are not orphans. In 2014 I collaborated with CCF Moldova for a Christmas ShoeBox campaign and I was impressed by their work and dedication to keeping families together and helping them through hard times. CCF usually help families reunite and provide decent homes for their children by helping parents buy basic furniture (beds, tables etc) and white goods (fridges, cookers). Also they help parents get jobs so that they can sustain the families in the long term. I know that every donation you make will have a great impact in someone’s life!
