American Football offers people of all shapes and sizes an opportunity to get active through a non-traditional sport they may never have considered before. In the last two years members of our teams have represented their country in the GB Lions junior, adult men's and adult women's teams.
Unfortunately, American Football is an expensive sport to take part in, due to equipment and travel costs. All of our teams travel hundreds of miles every year to take part in the sport they love, with games and tournaments as far afield as Inverness and Worcester. We want to remove as many of the financial barriers to participation as possible, and our goal is to raise money towards the cost of equipment and providing team travel across the club.
Formed in 1985, the East Kilbride Pirates are Scotland’s leading American Football club.
The club is amateur and run by volunteers, and comprises an adult team, a women’s only team, a junior team for 16-19 year olds and two youth teams for 14-16 year olds. Our adult team plays in the top tier of British American Football, in the Northern Football Conference Premier division.
Our three under 19s teams were set up with funding from the big Lottery’s Awards for All programme and are focused on making sure that young people have an enjoyable experience of American Football in a safe and positive environment.
We launched our women’s team in September 2015. While girls and women are always welcome to take part in our other teams, our newest addition to the Pirates family was started to take advantage of the growing interest in women’s flag and tackle football.
