Dundee Westfests Big Sunday is one of Scotland’s most successful free events which has grown into a "must attend" date in many family diaries. It is run completely by local volunteers who give up their spare time to work throughout the year to bring the people of Dundee an event which only last six hours, but what a six hours it is. There’s music, food, bars, charity stalls and a variety of activities for the younger members of the family. To achieve this the volunteer committee attend monthly meetings to work their way through the many aspects of bureaucracy and negotiate deals that many businesses would be proud of. Running an event like WestFest is not cheap and while there is money coming from the vendors and stall holders who attend on the day this falls far short of covering the total cost of the event. So to help fund the event, the committee volunteers use their networks to tap into many sources of funding which goes towards paying for the ambulance, first aid, security, fencing, generators, stage hire, signage, transport, gazebos, sound system, toilets and providing free activities for children. These are the bigger aspects that need to be covered but there are many smaller things which also need to be funded. If you attend Westfest and would like to see it continue in the same manner as it has in previous years, please feel free to donate to help the committee achieve this.
