Sometimes in doing the right thing you cause yourself unexpected trouble… When a homeless young person asked if they could dry their tent and damp clothing in the ‘yellow room’ at our Drop-in Centre, we agreed – of course. We also washed some of their clothes, gave them access to our shower and provided hot food and a food parcel. A few days later we realised that we’d made the fleas as welcome as we had the homeless young person. We have just paid £900 to have the room professionally heat treated. (Over the years, using chemicals to treat infestations has become increasingly ineffective as insects have become tolerant to the different chemicals used. These treatments can also cause damage to property and may have to be repeated numerous times to completely diffuse the problem.
