In April 2015, Tom Mann and George Ireland will be cycling across the width of America, from New York to LA, approximately 3,500 miles (5,600km) to raise money for Worcester based Fort Royal School.
Tom, currently an IT Recruitment Consultant for Hewett Recruitment, and George, a retail buyer in Devon are looking to complete the ride unsupported in around 2 months, an average of around 60 miles per day in all terrains and weather conditions.
The team will be raising money for Fort Royal School in Worcester - Fort Royal is a special needs primary school with an attached nursery assessment unit. The schools children have special educational needs including learning difficulties, physical disabilities and children on the autistic spectrum.
The aim is to raise around 2,000 to cover the cost of specially adapted bikes for children at the school, any additional money raised will go towards helping the school re-build their play area facilities, which are currently un-safe and off limits!
The ride is supported by sponsors Hewett Recruitment and The Green Bike Company, who have generously provided essential equipment for the journey. The Green Bike Company has helped Fort Royal School for many years and Tom and George are keen to continue this support through their cycling.
The team will be running an online blog to keep people informed on their progress throughout the challenge. They also welcome donations of any size.
