The Southmead Breast-cancer Unit Support Trust was set up in 1991 by a group of three patients who had been treated for breast cancer at Frenchay Hospital. They were alerted to the pressing need for specialist equipment, largely unavailable on the NHS, to provide quicker and better diagnosis of breast abnormalities. The Trust's prime aim is to raise funds to enable the purchase of the latest technology for the benefit of patients. The Breast Care Centre is now based at Southmead Hospital.
