Primary bone cancer occurs most commonly in young people aged between 10 and 20, and affects about 400 people a year in the UK. Although five year survival from childhood cancer in the UK has now reached 75 per cent, and for some types is over 90%, survival for osteosarcoma the most common type of childhood bone cancer has not improved in the last 20 years, remaining at about 60%.
