Hey guys I have decided to set myself a challenge to climb Ben Lomond on Monday the 15th of June 2015 I started a weight loss journey a year and a half ago and can honestly say it has changed my life for the better!! In this time I lost 5 and a half stone and the changes in my health have been amazing!! As I was losing my weight I was noticing that my legs and arms were not changing in size so I went to the doctors and was referred to a specialist clinic for lymphodema. in January 2015 I was diagnosed with having lipeodema in my legs and arms which basically means the shape and size of my legs and arm will not change with weight loss or excercise this came as a huge shock to me and really affected my thought process on completing my weight loss journey anyone who knows me knows that at the begining of my journey the dream was to have normal legs to shop for boots that fit in the winter to wear sandals all these things I've never had and to hear someone say my legs won't change was like all my hard work was for nothing! Lipoedema is a genetic condition which it is an adipose tissue disorder causing bilateral symmetrical enlargement of the lower and in some cases the upper extremities in woman leading to significant disproportion of the waist to hip ratio affecting mainly woman lipoedema is commonly misunderstood and sadly rarely recognised leading to misdiagnosis in primary care.
Since receiving my diagnosis I have went through the emotions of being angry sad denial and I'm now at the stage of acceptance accepting what is and not let it affect me I'm in good health I have great family and friends who support me and I have made a choice not to let lipoedema define me and as a very good friend once told me "it's our imperfections that make us perfect" so on with the journey and challenge I'm determined to get myself and these legs of mine to the top no matter what!! Training has begun and my amazing husband will be joining me and supporting me all the way to the top!! So if any of you kind ppl would like to donate it would be very much appreciated!!!
Thanks Diane xx
