Anna and Jessie are both UK trained medical doctors with an interest in global health. This year we are taking 3 months off to become registered with the Medical Council of Malawi and to volunteer with Ripple Africa. During this time we will be assisting with their established family planning and disability projects and working alongside the local healthcare staff in their rural health clinics and district hospitals. Ripple Africa's mission is to improve the standard of education and healthcare, to preserve and sustainably develop the environment, and to create opportunities for the local community around Mwaya on the northern lakeshore of Lake Malawi. Their aim is to give a hand up - not a hand out. To raise money for the work that Ripple Africa does, we will undertake a 26km run from Chintheche Rural Hospital back to camp at Mwaya Beach during our stay in Malawi. All of the funds we raise will be directly given back to Ripple Africa and contribute to their local projects in education, healthcare, agriculture and the environment.
