Leonie Haines is raising $300 for The T.E.A. Project
About
Whilst living in Sri Lanka l came to know the inspirational founders of The T.E.A. project, Carl and Rachel. I was lucky enough to do some voluntary work for the charity and saw how the grass roots work of the T.E.A project can make such a difference to this most marginalised and impoverished section of Sri Lankan society. Since returning to the UK l have taken on the role of trustee and remain committed to supporting The T.E.A. Project in whatever way l can - even if it is likley to hurt! So, I am doing this 10k to raise awareness and funding for children living in plantation CommuniTEAs supported by The T.E.A. Project. Even before Covid, malnutrition, poor education, physical and mental abuse, poor housing, lack of opportunities...of hope, were commonplace. The ongoing Covid restrictions in Sri Lanka have increased the vulnerability of CommuniTEAs supported by The T.E.A. Project. With little to zero income, they are literally ‘offline’; with no access to online shopping or education. More vulnerable to abuse. Children are in desperate need of nutrition, education, mental stimulation and improvement to their well being. The T.E.A. Project is organizing emergency F.O.O.D. (Fueling Opportunities, Outcomes & Diet) drops for more than 80 vulnerable tea estate families. T.E.A. are donating weekly dry rations including rice, dhal, sugar, potatoes, soya and tea packets. Additionally T.E.A. are giving out study packs to provide education support and also Life Echo materials (www.life-echo.co.uk) to support their well being through individual therapeutic soundscapes. A little goes a really long way in Sri Lanka. The average cost of a rice packet meal is 150 rupees; that's only about 0.83p! But if you compare that to the average daily wage for a tea plantation picker of 750 rupees per day you can see what a huge amount of money that is...and that's beforeelectric, water bills, travel expenses etc. All donations will go directly to supporting relief operations at The Cloud - A Centre for Children's Empowerment in Hanthanna, Sri Lanka. For more information about The T.E.A. Project please visit theteaproject.org Thank you for visiting my Givey page. When you make your donation through Givey, The T.E.A. Project receives 100% of the donation. Your details are safe with Givey and donating is completely secure.
