I'm running the Great North Run Half Marathon on 7th September for Alzheimer's Society.
Over 800,000 people in the UK have been diagnosed with Alzheimer's, ranging from elderly people to those much younger in their thirties and forties.
My Nana has recently been diagnosed with Alzheimer's, and whilst she is coping well, I have seen her change from an independent, confident lady to someone who struggles to carry out daily tasks like shopping, regularly forgets what she is supposed to be doing and can't join in conversation and give her two cents like she used to!
I'd love to raise as much money as possible, as the Alzheimer's Society not only put money into research for prevention and treatment, they also helps provide support and advice for people like my Nana, to make remembering and coping a little easier.
Unfortunately, more and more people we know will be affected by Alzheimers and Dementia, possibly our parents in the future, and even ourselves. It would be great to raise money allow the people we love to feel like themselves and be independent for as long as possible.
I've been hitting the training hard (!) and would be so so grateful if you could donate, just the price of a couple of pints, or whatever you can afford to help spur me on and support a great cause too.
