910 people a day are diagnosed with Cancer. 1 in 3 people have some form of diagnosis in their lifetime.
In July 2013, our perspective on life changed. A friend of ours lost her life to the big 'C' after a long battle. She was 40. Her husband had died also of the disease a few years previous. We hugged our babies more tightly and reviewed our Life Insurance!
We also started eating more healthily; trying so hard to shift the excess weight we'd gained over the years. Then the fitness challenges began.
This is the first of many.
We aim to raise 5,000 for St. Catherine's Hospice, based in Lancashire. The people who work here are amazing, and we were surprised to find out that they have to raise money for themselves to keep going. As life-long supporters of another Cancer Charity we never realised that St. Catherine's would look after our friends and family in the Preston and South Ribble area, and not the others as we are not in their catchment area. So it's time to make an impact.
The first challenge goes to Stewart: he is to swim open water in lake Coniston on August 17th. We are told the temp of the water is around 16 degrees, but will feel much colder due to the great British elements. Plenty of wind and rain up there!! He's been practicing hard since September, and the wet suit is on order!
Dig deep, and don't forget to Gift Aid it!
Much love
Stewart and Lisa
