About
On 30th May, myself and my fellow team members will be taking on the Welsh Three Peaks (Snowdon in the North, Cadair Idris in mid-Wales, and Pen y Fan in the South). We will be raising money for isolated, lonely and vulnerable older people in need. Most of us have older people in our lives that we care about, but sadly many living in our local areas do not have the security and support of family and friends. Loneliness is a bigger problem than simply an emotional experience. Research from the Campaign to End Loneliness shows that loneliness and social isolation are harmful to our health: lacking social connections is a comparable risk factor for early death as smoking 15 cigarettes a day, and is worse for us than well-known risk factors such as obesity and physical inactivity. - 17% of older people are in contact with family, friends and neighbours less than once a week and 11% are in contact less than once a month - Over half (51%) of all people aged 75 and over live alone - Two fifths all older people (about 3.9 million) say the television is their main company An amazing charity that I work for is: Age Connects Morgannwg. It is an independent local charity and not for profit company that has existed since 1977. Their aim is to provide older people living in Rhondda Cynon Taf, Merthyr Tydfil and Bridgend with the assistance and support that they rightly deserve. Please show your support for proud local older people and also for me climbing three mountains in 24 hours! Your donations are much appreciated. Thank you, Angie XXX
