FINALLY after 2 years, Hear Their Roar are able to return to Sierra Leone to continue their work and I'm so proud to be a part of the team, where I can use my experience of teaching and my experience and understanding of trauma in children. HTR works with children and young people from the slums and streets in Africa. These children and young people are going through unimaginable trauma, some are in gangs, or on drugs, many are being sexually exploited or experiencing domestic violence. We invest in emotional health and communication skills which have been neglected as charities have focused on giving children basic needs. We work towards restoring identity and renewing hope. We also work with the adults in the communities, be they parents/carers, teachers or social workers focusing on how to parent and care for children and adolescents. Sierra Leone is the 5th poorest country in the world. We have connections with schools and will be working to get these young people off the streets and into education. Any donations go directly towards the cost of the project which is entirely voluntary. Personal costs not included are: Vaccinations, Travel insurance and VISA..
