Go big or go home... Having never considered myself much of a runner and the only previous long distance run being the Canterbury half marathon back in 1989, I have decided to run the Goring Gap Ultra Marathon on 15th May. This is 50km - yes, longer than a marathon (hence the "Ultra" tag), with the plan being to do this and never do anything as silly ever again! However whilst running myself into the ground, I thought I should ensure it has some worthwhile outcome. My sister (Suzanne Cox) is an Ambassador for the Zero Suicide Alliance, which is a charity campaign run by MerseyCare NHS Trust and so in honour of her recent "big" birthday, I am dedicating my Ultra to support Zero Suicide Alliance. Zero Suicide Alliance (ZSA)'s aim is of course to do something about the ever increasing rate of suicides by providing suicide awareness training, educational courses and resources so anyone can be ready to maybe help prevent a suicide. Much like we all do first aid training - ZSA specifically help the NHS, local authorities, schools, businesses and individuals to be equipped to help prevent a suicide.
