This is Patuma, and we want to help her (a little will go a very, very long way). We would love to give her family an unforgettable Christmas gift – empowerment. The ability to grow their own food, and send their children to school with full bellies and the reality of a future with opportunities. Alex, Bobby and Tamlyn filmed Patuma while documenting the work of Love Support Unite in Malawi. Patuma and her family opened their hearts and their home to us, showing us how Love Support Unite has already improved the lives of families in their village – Mkunkhu. So why do they need more? And what will it do for them? Patuma’s family are high risk throughout the famine period. Her parents work in other people’s fields for very little money because they can’t afford the resources to start farming their own land. Patuma eats at primary school every day, but the rest of the family don’t, and her older brother doesn’t go to school because the £45 per term school fees are too expensive. He works in the fields. Love Support Unite has an incredible program, ‘Sustainable Family Futures’ that empowers families to become financially independent. What does the program offer to families? - Fertilizers and farming inputs - Training on how to farm their land for their own food AND how to sell the surplus for profit - Famine relief (food) for the first year while they harvest, designed to be the last they’ll need - They will be food secure within a year - They pay the loan back interest free which goes back into another family’s program All this for just £500. Any small donation will go a very long way in securing a family’s future. In 2017, 10 families’ lives were changed using this program. 35 will be helped in 2018 and it will continue growing. We want to make it 36 and get Patuma’s family on that list now. . £500 is the main goal IT WILL change their lives forever During year one the family won’t make enough profit to send their son to school or buy some basic provisions, like soap and warm clothes for the kids. Love Support Unite assessed they would need £255 to supply this, which we would love to raise for them too. So £755 is the stretch goal – a real cherry on top. The best part is that this is a leg up, not a hand out. Once they start selling their crops, they will not need help again. Love Support Unite is a grass roots charity, that targets individual communities and families for maximum impact. Every penny raised will go directly to the above.
