My name is Mosope Aderinto and I live in Manchester UK. And I am here to raise awareness about paediatric cancer and to help raise money for cancer research. Cancer has existed for all of human history. The earliest written record regarding cancer is from around 1600 BC in Egypt. Every day around 10 young people in the UK are diagnosed with cancer. Despite improving survival rates, cancer is the leading cause of death in children, teenagers and young adults. Approximately 5–10% of cancers are due to inherited genetic defects from a person's parents. Cancer can be detected by certain signs and symptoms or screening tests. I am passionate and committed to helping to raise awareness and the resources required to help fund cancer research. I have helped raise awareness in my school and in my church and I also plan to run half marathons to raise money for charities. I have seen the devastation cancer can cause firsthand to victims and to their families. My grandfather was diagnosed with cancer 18 years ago and I watched him go through many years of painful chemotherapy, radiotherapy, blood transfusions and surgery. I watched as he continuously battled with the disease and the toll it took upon him and the whole family. Unfortunately, he died this January. Thank you as you support me in this just cause.
