For the second time, I am due to take part in the Skipton Triathlon in mid April – it is a 400m swim (luckily in an indoor pool, but boy is it cold when you get outside!), then a 22km bike race round the roads of the Dales, and finishing with a 5km run around Aireville Park. I managed to make it in just over 1 hour 30 mins last year. This year I am aiming to do it in under 1 hour 30.In addition I will be fundraising for a charity, which, having volunteered there, is overseen by a close friend of mine. It is called The Small Things, based in Tanzania: ‘The Small Things strives to keep vulnerable and orphaned children in the Meru District of Tanzania in their families by creating sustainable, participatory and evolving care plans for their future. For those families most at-risk, we provide loving residential care in an effort to further strengthen the community’s long-term capacity.’ I (and Marie and the kids) are aiming to raise £1000 to fund solar panel’s for the Childrens houses – partly to ensure electricity, partly eco and partly to then save ongoing costs.
