Now considering I didnt start running until I got a place in this marathon, this 26.2 mile dash through the big smoke is going to be a bit of a challenge for me. As many of you know, training for this race has been tough as I ended up injuring myself (again) at the end of December last year. This meant that I was not able to train as much as I should have over the last few months but in spite of this I am still determined to complete this challenge. Im happy to say that I managed to complete my first ever race last month which was the Fleet half-marathon so at least I know Ill be able to complete the f irst half ;) So why am I putting myself through this? Well apart from being a personal challenge, I will also be raising money and awareness for a very good cause - Crohns and Colitis UK. This is a charity whose aim is to improve life for anyone affected by Inflammatory Bowel Disease such as Ulcerative Colitis and Crohns Disease. Crohns Disease is a condition that causes severe inflammation of the digestive system, swelling and pain. Crohns is sometimes described as a chronic condition. This means that it is ongoing and life-long, although sufferers may have periods of good health (remission) as well as times when symptoms are more active (relapses or flare-ups). My wife was diagnosed with Crohns Disease in 2012 but it took a good 6 months for the Drs to work this out. Unfortunately not a lot is known about this condition yet it is estimated that it affects about one in every 650 people in the UK. We have found that Crohns and Colitis UK charity has been a great source of information and support especially when she was first diagnosed and we didn't know much about the disease. As well as providing information and support, this charity also helps fund research in order to try and find a cure to this condition. Please help me raise as much as I can for this very worthwhile cause. Im hoping to raise as much money as possible but have settled on 1310 as my target since thats 50 for each mile I will run. I would love to reach this target before I arrive on the starting line next Sunday as it would definitely spur me on during those last painful miles :) And please note that unlike other charity websites, this one gives 100% of the money raised directly to the charity so every 1 does make a difference.
