This coming weekend I'm taking part in a 53km race in the Dolomites. The course includes 3.9km of ascent and also 3.8km of descent on rugged terrain. I've never taken part in a marathon, half marathon or even a 10km run so it's just a little outside of my comfort zone! My training plan has had to accommodate a few disruptions including a strained calf and shingles so I wouldn't say my preparation has ideal. However I've had a good go and hope that my head will get me through the challenge! The ultra marathon is in Northern Italy in the Dolomite Unesco area starting in a small village called Val di Zoldo, 900 metres above sea level. The route heads up the valley and then up and down the peaks around the valley up to the highest one standing at 2,500 metres tall. It's going to be the toughest physical challenge I've ever taken on.
