Tim Beswick is raising £10,000 for RNLI - Royal National Lifeboat Institution
About
I promised a good friend of mine that next time I did any fundraising it would be for the RNLI. So when the charity organised a bike ride around the tip of Cornwall visiting 3 of their stations I couldn't turn it down. The ride was 51 miles, started at St Ives lifeboat station, followed the northern coast of Cornwall to Lands End, then along to Newlyn and Penzance before heading north back to St Ives. But you're not just sponsoring me for the one ride. That would be too easy. That was just a warm up. In September I'll be doing an 88 mile, closed road ride, around North Wales with 2700m of vertical gain. I have a time limit for this - too slow and I get taken off the road! I don't like not finishing. I want my 'been there done that' t-shirt! And in October, Team Sky's Geraint Thomas is taking part in a 96 mile ride from Cardiff to Brecon and back again taking in the best climbs of the Brecon Beacons. Vertical gain 3700m. I'm doing it too! To give you an idea, whilst the 2 Yorkshire stages of this years Tour de France were many miles longer they had 2480m and 4000m of vertical gain respectively. So about the same as I'll be doing. I don't have a fundraising target; I just want to do my bit. It won't let me set zero so I've just picked a nice round number :-) Every penny will be greatly appreciate by both the RNLI, and by me as I continue to train for the 2 bigger challenges ahead. Thanks for visiting, thanks for sponsoring and thanks to 'SMH Holidays' for donating my lovely accommodation in Cornwall. Tim
