Liz and I are spending a month volunteering in Malawi as nurses. We have been quite shocked to discover how desperately underfunded and poorly resourced the health service is . The staff are struggling to provide even a basic level of healthcare. Their access to even the essential equipment such as running water and soap is at best minimal and at worst non existent. Ripple Africa https://rippleafrica.org/ have supported our trip . Their UK base is in Buckingham and they have operated in Malawi for 21 years. They have excellent links with the community close to their base in Mwaya Bay, in Malawi and they have a really good understanding of the needs of the local community. They are also a significant employer with over 700 Malawian employees. Primarily an enviromental project supporting fish conservation, tree planting, cook stoves which use less wood and are safer, particularly for children - they also support local education and healthcare again in close partnership with the local services. If you would like to support Ripple, Liz and Carol have set up a Givey page. All the money raised will go directly to the charity to enable them to continue these worthwhile projects. Thank you so much in advance for any help you feel able to offer.
