17 daring Bowker employees are participating in the Born Survivor Mud Run, known as the UK’s most authentic and epic Military Obstacle Course, on September 17 2022. This fundraising event is in honour of their friend and fellow employee, Alison Prowse. 18th November 2020 was the day Alison was told she had breast cancer. Not only that, but she would need extensive treatment; Chemotherapy, Radiotherapy, Mastectomy and an Oophorectomy. More than anything, Alison worried about losing her hair and looking like a cancer patient. Unbeknown to Alison, one of her friends put her forward for HUG In A Bag - a local charity that relies on donation to give every person diagnosed with Cancer a bag full of goodies to help ‘you make yourself feel like you again’. Alison’s bag included a heart shaped cushion which is made by volunteers (an absolute must after surgery as she couldn’t put her arm down to her side) make up, toiletries, a pashmina to keep her warm at chemo or cover her head when Alison's hair started to drop out, lip balm, hand cream, a mirror , a little teddy, a lapel pin and lots of little things to remind Ali that she would get through it! “These bags provide so much comfort and the thought that goes into them is just amazing - I cried when I was given mine. The charity can’t run without donations so for my colleagues to be doing the mud run and donating the proceeds to HUG In A Bag means the world to me, and it’s a way of me giving something back. Whilst I am unable to do the run myself I will be there cheering them on” As the charity states, "a 'hug' says you're not on your own" and Team Bowker are doing all they can to show their support for Alison and the charity.
