I'm raising funds for foodbanks across the UK, by cycling 140 miles across the UK from coast to coast.
Every day people in the UK go hungry for reasons ranging from redundancy to an unexpected bill on a low income. In 2013-14 Trussell Trust foodbanks fed 913,138 people nationwide. 330,205 were children.
Foodbanks help prevent crime, housing loss, family breakdown and mental health problems. A simple box of food makes a big difference.
I want to complete this challenge in 3 to 4 days, finishing over the weekend before the May 7 election to raise awareness of the severe poverty in the UK and the dangerous imbalance in the nation's financial value system.
Children's services, from libraries to SureStart to CAMHS have been cut, cut and cut again, whilst chain coffee shops and huge online retailers are allowed to make masses of corporation tax-free profit - which could fund these vitally needed services. What's more these profits are fuelled by low wages and zero hour contracts.
Please help me to help the UK families bearing the brunt of this by sponsoring my 140 mile cycle ride.
The schedule!
Thurs 30 April - Whitehaven to Keswick (31 miles)
Fri 1 May - Keswick to Longwathby (28 miles)
Sat 2 May - Longwathby to Allenheads (28 miles)
Sun 3 May - Allenheads to Rowlands Gill plus Rowlands Gill to Tynemouth (51 miles)
Monday 4 May - RESTING
Givey gives 100% of your donation direct to the charity and doesn't charge them any fees. I am organising this challenge myself and paying my trip costs, so none of your donation is spent on event management.
